Celebrate Safe Communities
In celebration of October being National Crime Prevention month the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is encouraging communities to hold a special community based event to "Celebrate Safe Communities". This program is sponsored by the National Sheriff's Associations and the National Crime Prevention Council. These events are intended to help recruit additional personnel for such programs as Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch, and other community based crime prevention programs. These community events are also a great opportunity to distribute crime prevention information and educate the public about crime prevention based services.
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office Crime Prevention Unit is strongly encouraging all Neighborhood Watch groups to plan an event in their community. The event can be as simple as a community based picnic or block party. Once a Neighborhood Watch group decides to hold an event they should contact their Sheriff's Office Neighborhood Watch liaison and make them aware of the event. This will help the liaison assist the community in getting crime prevention materials and in some cases plan for a visit by members of the Sheriff's Office Crime Prevention Unit. This is an outstanding opportunity for the community to get together in support of keeping their community crime free. An opportunity for neighbors to get together, introduce themselves over a cold soda or glass of iced tea, is a critical step in getting a neighborhood collectively working toward maintaining the safety of the community as a whole. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office Crime Prevention Unit will be using the month of October as an opportunity to bred interest in our crime prevention programs such as Neighborhood Watch and Business Watch. October will also see the introduction of the monthly Loudoun County Sheriff's Office Neighborhood Watch Newsletter, which any citizen can enroll to receive. This newsletter will focus on current crime prevention based information and provide citizens prevention tips relative to the time of year and ongoing crime trends in Loudoun County. Crime Prevention Specialist will also be offering prevention classes throughout the month of October to keep community members better educated and informed so as to reduce the likelihood of participants being the victim of a crime. We hope that as many communities as possible can participate in this month long event and we look forward to working with you.
